University of Texas Permian Basin is located in the heart of the Permian Basin where 3 Billion Cubic Feet of CO2 are injected daily in Enhanced Oil Recovery projects, resulting in additional daily production of >300,000 Barrels which could be recovered by no other means. Significant quantities of CO2 remain in the reservoirs as the oil is recovered resulting in “Incidental Storage”. UTPB has a long history of working with industry on modeling, case studies, and regional studies of Residual Oil Zones and the utilization of CO2 in these zones. The concept of Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage has been pioneered in the basin with UTPB, along with industry partners, at the forefront.
